RideFinders Receives ACT Chesapeake Chapter’s TDM Collaboration and Cooperation Award
RideFinders News
Recently, RideFinders received the Transportation Demand Management (TDM) Collaboration and Cooperation Award from the Chesapeake Chapter of the Association for Commuter Transportation (ACT). This award recognizes organizations that join forces to advance effective strategies that reduce single-occupancy vehicle travel, support sustainable commuting, and improve regional mobility.
This recognition highlights our efforts in promoting transit with GRTC to advance sustainable mobility through our Count It. Change It. campaign. The campaign is a regionwide initiative designed to help commuters track their travel choices, calculate savings, and understand their environmental impact. Central to the campaign is the friendly Cost Calculator hero—an engaging visual tool showing commuters the real costs of driving alone. By showcasing the financial and environmental benefits of shared or active transportation, the campaign empowers individuals to make small, meaningful changes that benefit both their wallets and the planet.
The campaign demonstrated measurable results with higher trip recording through the ConnectingVA app, significant reductions in vehicle miles traveled and emissions, and strengthened community engagement across the region. RideFinders also amplified personal stories through Transit Thursday spotlights, featuring real riders like Valerie from the Department of Environmental Quality and Derek from the Department of Human Resource Management. Their experiences put a human face on sustainable transportation, helping the community see its value through the lens of everyday commuters.
“This award reflects the power of partnership,” said Cherika Ruffin, Executive Director of RideFinders. “By aligning our commuter programs with transit use, we’ve been able to amplify results, broaden regional impact, and help more people move sustainably every day.”
We extend our sincere thanks to the ACT Chesapeake Chapter for this recognition and to our many partners, employers, and community members who support and advance sustainable mobility across our region. Together, we’re building a more connected, resilient, and environmentally responsible future.
