Transit

Be the CEO of Your Commute & Take Transit

It’s so easy to save money and reduce your carbon footprint when you take transit. Taking transit to work, to shop, to a doctor’s appointment or for fun is an easy and economical way to get around the Richmond region!

GRTC provides riders with convenient, safe, and reliable transportation services that reduce road congestion and air pollution. And – GRTC is fare free!

Transit Access Partnership (TAP)

The Transit Access Partnership is a regional initiative led by GRTC to ensure long-term support for Open Access Transit in Central Virginia. Launched in 2023, TAP brings together public, private, and nonprofit partners around a shared mission: to expand access to opportunity by keeping transit open, simple, and accessible for everyone. Open Access Transit means everyone can ride, with no fare and no barriers. Learn more about TAP.

Tax-deductible donations are made possible through a partnership with RideFinders, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit affiliated with GRTC. All contributions go directly toward supporting open access to public transportation. RideFinders is proud to support Open Access Transit.

Save the Date: TAP into Transit Day

TAP Into Transit Day is a community fundraiser celebrating the impact of Open Access transit across the Richmond region!

Join GRTC riders, community partners, regional leaders, artists, and advocates for an evening highlighting how public transportation connects people to opportunity while supporting the future of Open Access through the Transit Access Partnership (TAP). RSVP to the event!

GRTC has made it easier than ever to ride the bus and ride your bike, all at the same time! Standard GRTC bus bike racks can accommodate two bikes with tires up to 2 1/4 inches wide and bikes up to 61 inches long; Pulse bike racks are larger and can accommodate three bikes with tires up to 3 1/4 inches wide and bikes up to 80 inches long. Learn more about using the bike rack.

GRTC offers convenient and free Park-N-Ride lots that run along Express service routes to the downtown Business District. All Park-N-Ride lots are safe, well-lit, and easily accessible. Parking is also available for the GRTC Pulse (Bus Rapid Transit) service. Hop from your car to work, without wearing out yourself or your car!

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s Park and Ride lots are available for use when commuting to work or school, or when sightseeing, shopping, running errands, etc. and allow commuters, particularly long-distance commuters, to park their vehicles or bikes at a convenient location and then finish their commute using alternative transportation modes – carpool, vanpool, bus, train, bike, or walking.
