April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

RideFinders has partnered with DRIVE SMART Virginia to bring awareness to Distracted Driving Awareness Month - the perfect opportunity to learn more about the various forms of distracted driving.

Distracted driving comes in many forms such as adjusting the radio or GPS, applying makeup, eating and drinking, and texting. One of the primary causes of distracted driving is the use of smartphones while driving. Whether it's checking text messages, browsing social media, or making phone calls, the temptation to use these devices is overwhelming for many drivers. However, these distractions can have disastrous consequences, as they divert the driver's attention from the road.

Some ideas on how to promote safe driving in your workplace or community provided by DRIVE SMART Virginia:
Make It Fun in the Workplace: Employees are more likely to embrace a safety program when they are part of the process. Make it fun! Have a contest. Ask employees to create distracted driving awareness posters for the workplace. Employees can vote for their favorite. Provide a prize for the winner.

Share the Message: Posters and pamphlets are available – FREE – from the DRIVE SMART Virginia store. We’ll even ship them to you. Putting up a poster in a break room, lobby, bathroom, community board, etc. will spread the message and demonstrate your company’s commitment to safe driving habits.

Spread the Word: Send a company-wide email reminding employees that April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month in Virginia. Use the template located in our online toolkit. It offers eye-opening statistics about the prevalence and consequences of distracted driving.
